2. Thermal radiation coming from the Sun. The surface temperature on the sunward side of the Moon can get up to 390 K (242 deg F). Again, because there’s no atmosphere, there doesn’t have to be that much insulation in the spacecraft itself. Since the spacecraft spent more time in sun than shadow, it was more important to prevent the astronauts from getting too hot as opposed to getting too cold.
